The annual exhibition by the Sahitya Kala Parishad, which is the cultural wing of the Government of the NCT of Delhi, features established and emerging artists from the capital. The exhibition in 2014 received more than 300 applications for participation. A judging committee handpicked 60 artists to present their works in the mediums of painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, and graphics. Of the selected artworks, those by Nitin Gera were awarded as the best photography exhibits.
The winning picture titled ‘Time Machine’ is part of the artist’s series on ‘Linear Improvisation.’ In these artworks he uncovers the rhythms intrinsic to his subjects. Here lines are worked upon to emphasize the symmetry of the subject and to induce dynamism. A precise distortion captured through a fisheye lens simulates an inclusive inspection of an inscrutably white cosmos.
